Unlocking Enhanced Capabilities with Google Cloud's Speech-to-Text API V2

In recent years, enterprise customers have been consistently requesting a unified view of our Speech-to-Text service to meet data residency and compliance requirements, particularly in heavily regulated industries such as banking and public sector. In response, we are excited to announce the General Availability (GA) release of our new Speech-to-Text v2 API, which offers significant enhancements to our existing offering.

With the official launch of our Speech-to-Text API back in 2017, we leveraged Google's global infrastructure to host and monitor our production-facing transcription models. Since then, we have continued to refine and expand our service, utilizing Google Cloud Platform's robust network and well-connected infrastructure as the backbone of our offering.

The new Speech-to-Text v2 API builds upon this foundation by introducing several key features that enhance our speech recognition capabilities. One notable addition is Chirp, a large speech model with 2B parameters, which enables us to serve a wider variety of models than ever before. This innovation also allows us to take advantage of significant cost savings in our serving path, resulting in reduced base prices and added pricing incentives for large workloads and those willing to accept longer turnaround times.

In addition to new features, the Speech-to-Text v2 API modernizes our API interface, ensuring seamless integration with existing models and features from previous versions (STT v1 or v1p1beta1 APIs). This ensures that our customers can continue to utilize their familiar workflows while enjoying the benefits of our enhanced capabilities.

With over 6 years since its initial launch and processing over 1 billion voice minutes each month, it comes as no surprise that we have served thousands of customers across various industries.
